Dear Homeowners,

Please visit our website www.stonybrookconcernedhomeowners.org or our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/stonybrookconcernedhomeowners for the complete article about this important court ruling in Hempstead. The Appellate Court ruled in the towns favor after an earlier ruling in a lower court calling the law unconstitutional.

Thank god for these types of wins because if this was lost the Towns would be powerless to enforce our rental registration codes.

Anthony and I are meeting with Supervisor Ed Romaine, The Town Law department, Councilwoman Valerie Cartright and members of Stony Brook University to continue or ongoing dialogue to work toward solutions to the student housing crisis created by the landlords looking to profit at our expense. Thank you to Valerie Cartright for working to develop a much needed new more informative and restrictive rental registration form.

Please stay tuned as we continue to put pressure on the landlords. It is a big fight and one we must never give up as frustrating as it can be.

Take care
Bruce

The Town of North Hempstead’s Rental Registration Law requiring landlords to register with the building department was upheld April 7 by the Appellate Division.

The law had been found to be unconstitutional in 2003 after a lawsuit was filed by landlord Neville Anthony. He argued that some requirements, such as calling for landlords to provide names of tenants on the registration form, were an invasion of privacy.
