Area residents hoping to enjoy the long awaited warm weather this past Saturday were instead greeted with 200 ~ 300 drunken college students from SBU and afar attending a daytime keg party at 1337 Stony Brook Rd dubbed “Punch out” by the SBU chapter of the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO).

Terrified neighbors looked on in horror as waves of students arrived via vans, taxis and cars. In one case, a car wrapped in State Farm Insurance advertising, and the website sfbronx.com, could be seen dropping students off. As the influx continued, students could be seen walking across or congregating in neighboring yards. At various points, area residents witnessed, and took photos of,  intoxicated students urinating on neighboring properties and dangerously playing chicken with oncoming cars on Stony Brook Rd.

Responding to multiple 911 calls, Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD), along with Stony Brook University Police, arrived in force with 12 ~ 15 cars and a helicopter. As reported by Newsday.com and other news outlets, at least three individuals were arrested. With the dangerous mixture of alcohol and automobiles, it is not known if any corresponding DWI related accidents were reported.

More troubling, this party was just one of several organized  by SBU students as part of Latin Weekend 2014. Attracting  revelers from the five boroughs and as far away as upstate and NJ,  area residents are fuming at this latest display of disregard for the university’s surrounding neighborhoods.

With Three Village School District in recess for spring break, parents were left wondering when the Town will begin to tackle the student housing issue with a comprehensive plan. As one area resident, who asked that his name not be used, vented “It’s great that the Town is cracking down on the boarding houses and the slumlords. However, when are they going to get serious about this off-campus housing issue? To have drunken students publicly urinating in broad daylight is just ludicrous. It’s bad enough that I don’t feel safe in my own neighborhood anymore. Now, I have to worry about getting hit by a drunk driver in the middle of the day!”

As anger mounted among residents, partygoers, disinterested or oblivious, took to  Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtags #LatinWeekend2k14 and #SBULatinWeekend2k14, to document their debauchery, complain about the police response and/or locate the next party.

Here’s a sample of photos from area residents and from the students themselves.
